CEREMONY OF LIGHT

This powerful practice is based in the Wixárika (Huichol) tradition, and has been one that Deva and I have observed annually since it was introduced to us in 2008. It's a two week ceremonial container, with preparatory practices that lead to an all night ceremony that goes from sunset until sunrise. It is traditionally held on December 11th, the eve of the Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe, who was recognized as a deity or a representation of the divine feminine, Tonantzin (Divine Mother), among the Huichol as Catholicism spread throughout Mexico. However, the ceremony predates that time and can be considered this culture's version of a solstice ceremony.

The ceremony utilizes a completely different format than the Peruvian based Lady ceremonies we typically host throughout the year.

A major focus of this practice that culminates in a collective ceremony is to release, forgive, unburden, transform, and heal ourselves from the year that has passed so that we can step fully into the now and live into the forthcoming year in a whole and empowered way.

To honor and invoke the inner light during times of darkness, we fill the altar with candles that remain lit throughout the ceremony. In celebration of the creativity and power of the Divine Feminine, the ceremonial altar is filled with roses and other beautiful objects.

While honoring the divine feminine we work with a masculine plant teacher, which makes this ceremony more actively participatory than the others we facilitate throughout the year.

Together, we observe various practices throughout the night including multiple rounds of meditation with candles, which is a beautiful experience in itself. Weather permitting, we'll spend a portion of the evening working outside with Grandfather Fire, Tatawarí.

Other aspects of the ceremony include prayer, singing and storytelling all with the focus of emphasizing, strengthening and connecting to your inner light and innate source of strength.

This ceremony is energizing, with the intention to fill you up with light and vitality so that you can proceed along your heart's path with perseverance, connection and courage.

It's a beautiful and empowering practice, one of our favorites of the year.

MORE ABOUT PREPARATION

As mentioned above, preparatory practices for this ceremony begin two weeks in advance. Broadly speaking, they include:

  • A commitment to sexual abstinence begins:
Sunday November 24 (for 2 weeks).

  • Abstinence from salt begins:
Wednesday, December 3 (for 5 days).

  • 2 Fletchas: During this 2 week window, each participant creates 2 fletchas (prayer wands), which are a meditation on what you would like to manifest in the coming year.

We will be sending out detailed information / instructions about these practices to attendees beforehand.

Initial Deposit: $150/night
TO REGISTER: Upon approval, please be prepared to make your deposit.

FEE STRUCTURE
It is deeply important to me that this work remains accessible to those in need yet it needs to be sustainable, so that I can continue to provide this offering. I'm hopeful that this fee structure will strike the right balance, thanks for your understanding with these adjustments.

Standard: $300/night
for those who are able to meet their needs while budgeting educational, self-care and entertainment spending – for instance, those who are able to take some classes per year and eat out occasionally as long as you are mindful –  paying at this level helps sustain my work at a modest level.  (For final payment: $150, after $150 deposit)

Sustaining: $375-625/night

This level more closely reflects the full value of this transformative  work and my personal effort in making it available. For those who navigate the world with relative ease, can meet their needs easily through employment (are able to eat out whenever or make purchases without having to think about its impact to your monthly obligations, can vacation) or can comfortably not work, &/or have access to family wealth, own property, etc. This allows me to provide for my family and make this work accessible to those with fewer resources. (For final payment, subtract $125 deposit.)

Supported: Contact Me
If you have limited access to resources in your family, it is a strain to meet needs such as housing, health care or child care and/or if you would not be able to access this work without a discounted payment option, work-trade or payment plan.
